it’s all downhill from here – 17

Pretty big pull week, I’m not sure if you read Bitch Planet but it’s super interesting. Also I’m on target to release It’s All Downhill From Here in November. I’m still compiling the book so if there is anything you’d like to see specifically let me know. Maybe behind the scenes stuff, some interesting little character analysis. Whatever, the sky is the limit.

This is my first post after the first year mark. I took some time to reflect on what I’ve done this year and it should be as follows:
September 5th my brother got me this domain and encouraged me to display my comics online. After that I started an Indiegogo for Reggie and the Rabbit.
After that I finished R&tR and printed my first batch presenting it at the INDYpendent Self-Publisher’s Show.
December I had my Senior Project (called “Capstone”) where I showed what I accomplished to graduate college.
That Summer I went to Indiana Comic Con, Indy Pop Con, did a couple of Wine & Signs, and I went to the INDYpendent Self-Publisher’s Show for the second time.
Since then I’ve actualized my College Beast Assignment for Creature Creation class and I  started It’s All Downhill From Here.
I’d like to thank Elizabeth for being so patient. One of my fondest memories is driving down to Brinkman picking up the first batch. We were beaming! You were so proud of me and that made me feel like I was doing the right thing. I appreciate you being so tolerant, rolling with the punches when things weren’t planned out to the fullest, helping at the good cons and the ones that were more work than they were worth, and being there to celebrate the good times and the bad.
picking up my first batch with my booThanks for continuing to put up with me. 😀

I’m not sure what this year will hold but I’m excited to get stuff done. I hope this is inspirational to others. I have no art school training and only took a few classes on how comics work. The most important thing I’ve realized is doing the work, be good to those around you, and be good to yourself. Here is an inspirational video by Ira Glass from NPR on Storytelling. Follow me through my development and hopefully I can inspire you to pick up that pen, pencil, digital drawing pad, clay, or whatever medium you experiment with. You can do it, and at the end of the day you’ve got something that didn’t exist before!

If you’d like any questions answered you can e-mail me through the contact page. Be well and do great work!
-Matt
